Adhesive Capsulitis (Frozen Shoulder)

Shoulder brisement procedure under ultrasound guidance is a highly effective less invasive technique compared with arthroscopic capsular release surgery with great results.

This procedure can be performed in office under local anesthesia or under light sedation in the operative room.

The procedure is performed in four steps. First, the suprascapular nerve is blocked under the ultrasound guidance to help with the pain control. A single injection of a numbing agent combined with a steroid medication temporarily eliminates the pain signals. It’s like hitting a “reset” button. The nerve pathway sending continuous pain signals from the shoulder to the spinal cord and up to the brain is turned off. Often, that’s enough to get the shoulder back on track for improved movement and function. Second step includes another anesthesia injection directly into the shoulder joint using ultrasound guidance technique. This is followed by injection of fluid into the joint causing the capsule to expand until the capsule releases. The fourth step is manipulation of the shoulder the achieve maximum range of motion.

Amazing thing about this procedure is that the patient walks in with limited range of motion but walk out of the office same day very happy with significantly improved range of motion.

Dr. Mannan has treated his patients with this four-step procedure with great outcomes thus making this procedure as first option to arthroscopic capsular release surgery.
